A Fresh, New World

In researching my third novel, Death by Dolphin, I relied heavily on the photography and text of this excellent volume. Although I have visited Hawai'i several times, my skills do not include scuba, nor even if I had it could I have found the visual images which fill this book. I give it high recommendation to anyone who desires to both see and understand the variety of life which thrives in the ocean around our most beautiful state. Undersea photography is often a great challenge, and yet I found the work done in this marvelously produced book both a visual treat and educational treasurehouse.
Not bad, could be better

Overall a good book. Lots of information on each species and has a pretty decent list of fish, many with male/female shots and some with adult/juvenal shots. Info on diet, where to find them and observations make this a good book.

On the downside there are a couple of fish I saw in Hawai'i that I haven't found in the book. As a hardcover and ring book it is a bit heavier than a softcover, meaning if you are flying to Hawai'i it's a bit of a weight issue. My main issue with the book though is the quality of the photographs; many are too dark with poor colors. Its hard to imagine too because many are shallow water species that aren't necessarily all that timid. They need to update the book with more clear photos IMHO.
