I've been to Peter Thode's Gwynnbrook Farms twice.  The second
time was in 1997.  Peter is always very nice and accommodating;
he loves to talk about discus and his place truly is on a farm.  He's
located very close to the Aquarium Center store (definitely worth
a visit while you are in the area).  In the mid 1990's, Peter had a
fire, but he's back to business again.  I plan to visit Peter again
sometime soon and take some updated photos.   I didn't use a
flash, so some of the photos look dark and grainy.  His son works
on their website and has already given me the "okay" to stop by! :-)

(click on the small photos below for an enlarged view - note that the enlarged view
will be in a new window; close the new window first before proceeding to the next
small photo, or else the new window will be hidden from view.)

hatchery #1 hatchery #2

These first two photos are of the hatchery.  On the left, there's a solid
turquoise paired up with a striated turquoise.  One the right are a couple
of Peter's tanks set up on their racks.  Peter uses a centralized filtration
system.  He feeds his fish a turkey heart mix.

blue diamond #1 blue diamond #2

These photos are of Peter's blue diamonds.  Blue diamonds are said to
have originated from colbalts.   According to the book, "Malaysia Discus",
Some earlier breeders in Penang, (Mr. Khend Huat, Mr. Hock, and Mr.
Phang Teck Beng) noticed that some of their colbalt fry were transparent.
These grew up to become the first blue diamonds; from there, blue diamonds
were sold to Japanese and later to Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, etc...

Pigeonblood #1 Golden Red Turq

The fish on the left are pigeon bloods, made famous by Kitti Phanaitthi
of Kitti Discus Farm in Thailand.  The fish on the right are Golden
Red Turquoise.

Tangerine Dream #1 Dexheimer Red Turq

I like the Tangerine Dreams on the left - they were young and all lined
up along the lower part of the tank (almost like they were standing in
line waiting to be fed).  On the right are Dexheimer Red Turquoise.

Unless specified, these photos were taken by Walter Wu and these are not for public distribution
(ie. posted on other websites) without permission.
