Our story starts with a purchase by my husband of a wonderful little "Water Babies"
tank from our local store. If you aren't aware of "Water Babies", let me
explain. It is a small plastic container measuring about 4 inches by 4 inches and
a height of maybe 5 inches.
Inside is the "ideal" fish environment as is mentioned
while being sold. There were three fish, a snail and live plants inside the
container. My husband figured, oh well, it would be nice for a few months or
so, til the fish died. Well, let's say, I would never hear of such a thing.
So the proper thing I thought was to purchase a small aquarium
as I felt sorry for the fish having to live in such a small space. So off
to the store I went
and came home with a one gallon tank which seemed to be a better living environment for the
fish.
Well the three male guppies loved their new home.
But they needed girlfriends!
So off to the store I went to purchase girlfriends.
Then we were in a predicament as we had too many fish in a one gallon container, which after
reading more on the hobby of fish, we found that it was necessary to have one gallon of water
per inch of fish (which is only to be considered for small fish as you wouldn't put a 10 inch
fish in a 10 gallon aquarium). So off to the store
I went to purchase a 3 gallon tank.
Well then the fish began having babies. So off to the store I went to purchase
a ten gallon tank. The story goes on and on as the babies kept comming. I now have
three 20 gallon tanks, two 10 gallon, and two 3 gallon tanks.
Our story has quite a bit more to it then purchasing aquariums. Along the way we had losses
and tragedies, but we have learned more than we ever imagined our "Water Babies" would
bring of knowledge in raising fish.
