From a Pair to fry

The Spawn

Angels will spawn every 10-14 days in ideal conditions.  When your pair spawns you have 2 choices you can: let the angels parent raise, or artificially raise them.

Parent Raising

Parent raising is not really that hard.  Basically you just let the parents do what they do best and raise babies.  This may take a few tries before they get it right.  Some angels never get it right and will eat every spawn that they lay.  After 48 hours the spawn will begin to hatch.  They are then in a sort of larvae stage that the trade calls "wigglers."  During this stage the fry have a spot on their head that is sticky and they will stick to whatever.  The parents will try and keep them in one spot.  After 5 more days the wigglers will become freeswimming.  It is at this stage that you will want to start feeding the fry.  You will need to feed them Baby Brine shrimp.

Artificial Raising

Artificial raising can require a little more work, but one usually has a better yield of fry with artificial raising.  With artificial raising, once your pair is done spawning, you need to remove the eggs (watch out angels will bite).  You will want to put these eggs into some sort of container, possibly a 1 gallon jar.  You need to use fresh water in this container so that you won't be introducing large amounts of bacteria to your eggs.  You will want to add some sort of bacteriacide.  I use acriflavine, but most people swear by methylene blue.  After 48 hours the spawn will begin to hatch.  They are then in a sort of larvae stage that the trade calls "wigglers."  During this stage the fry have a spot on their head that is sticky and they will stick to whatever.  It is at this time that you will want to start doing daily 50% water changes.  After 5 more days the wigglers will become freeswimming.  It is at this stage that you will want to start feeding the fry.  You will need to feed them Baby Brine shrimp.
