From fry to the Sale

After Freeswimming

At day 7 from the time they were laid, the fry will be free swimming.  This is the time that you should start feeding them.  You will also need to move them to a different container of some sort.  What I do is I use a plastic shoebox with a hole in one side covered in very fine screen, I then pipe the output of a sponge filter into the box.  This causes a flow of water through the shoebox keeping the shoebox relatively clean for the fry.  Most people call this the "shoebox" method.  I suspend this "shoebox" in a 10gal tank.  I use fresh water in the 10gal tank so I am not introducing bacteria into the tank.  I usually keep the fry in the "shoebox" for about 1 week and then I release them into the 10gal tank.  This "shoebox" is mainly used for easy cleaning while the fry are very small.  While in this shoebox you will still want to be doing your regular water changes.

As the fry get older you will want to be splitting them up and putting them into different tanks.  This will promote fast growth and keep the bio-load low in the tank.

Juveniles are usually sellable at about nickel body size.  Most Pet Stores will pay $1 apiece for nickel size angels.
