Blue-Green Chromis:
Total size: around 3 ½ in. (sometimes larger)
Scientific Name: Chromis viridis
The best reef fish, ever. These little guys' personality is much different than that of other damsels. They also get to be much larger than most damsels. Chromis are cheap in the trade. They are often used as "starter" fish to get salt water systems ready. They are very hardy, schooling fish, which prefer to be with several of their own kind. In the wild they are found swimming with yellow tang in the coral reef beds a lot with sergeant majors (Abudefduf saxatills) but the thousands. I prefer to keep these fish in a reef environment, because it seems to be what they prefer. They can also be kept with slightly aggressive fish in a fish only tank, as long as there are others of its own species.

Gold Banded Maroon Clownfish
Total size: 4 - 5in. (often larger)
Amphiprion sp.
As all maroon clownfish go, they seem to be more aggressive than other clownfish. When given an anemone they become very possessive and any color, invertebrate, fish, and sometimes rocks, that they don't like coming near their anemone, they will ram into it. These guys are very interesting. They have an unusual body shape, and with their solid colors and definite strips, they are a very attractive fish. They do not need an anemone, but they surely would be better off with one. If they don't get an anemone they will play around in your soft corals, and eventually kill them. When you feed your tank, the clownfish will venture away from the anemone, retrieve food bits, and spit it into the its anemone to feed it. The anemone offers protection; other fish are scared of anemones because they will eat them. The clown fish, or anemone fish, is the only type of fish able to live inside this invertebrate. Even though they are related to damsels, they are very different. Clown fish of all types are very hardy, and like damsels are often used as "starter fish." The type of anemone isn't particular to one type of clown fish. The best kinds for housing clowns are sabae anemones and rose anemones. Should be kept in reef aquariums as a single fish, or in a pair.

Percula Clown
Total size: 3 ½ - 4 (sometimes larger)
Amphiprion sp.
These are the most popular of clown fish. Maybe not the most often seen in stores, or used in tanks, but they are the stereotypical version of what clownfish should look like. Bright orange, and black outlined-white stripes. These clownfish aren't as aggressive as maroons, but should be taken care of the same way.
